You love every kind of music, so how do you narrow down what kind of music you’ll want played at your wedding reception? The options are endless, and it may feel like you don’t even know where to begin.  The good news is that there is no reason for you to know exactly what you want because a good DJ will be able to decide for you. Here are a few things to think about when discussing your likes and dislikes with your wedding DJ.

Consider your Style
What bands do you absolutely love? Try to think of your go-to playlists when you’re in a really good mood. It’s impossible to think of every single song or artist that you like, but if you can give your DJ a few examples, they should be able to get a feel for your personality and what type of music you like best. Don’t worry about what’s typical or traditional wedding reception music, this is your day, and your music should be what you and your partner like above everything else.

If there is a certain style or artist you prefer, you should let your DJ know. In the same vein, if there is something you just absolutely hate, make sure to tell us! It’s our job to ensure you have a reception that is true to your personality and style, so there won’t be any T Swift playing if you just can’t stand the girl. But if you just absolutely love Queen (who doesn’t?!), we can definitely work with that!

Consider your guests' style

Your guests’ taste in music should only be considered after your own. But if your grandma is offended by ‘dirty’ songs, we will definitely keep that in mind when making our selections, and only play Get Low once she’s gone to bed. If country music just gets your out of town cousin a little too excited, then Boot Scootin’ Boogie is off the table this time! Your DJ will help you to think through your guest list and the type of people they are overall and will have no problem keeping them engaged, excited and dancing all night long.

Start with the Big Events:

Think through the events that are going to happen at your reception:

  • Introducing the wedding party
  • Introducing the bride and groom
  • The first dance
  • Parents dances
  • Bouquet toss
  • Garter toss

Most couples have a song in mind for some of these events, if that's the case for you, be sure to let us know ahead of time, especially if there is a specific version you prefer. There is a huge difference between the original No Diggity and the acoustic version, for example. If you can’t think of anything specific, your DJ will be able to make suggestions based on your conversations. For example, some brides feel like Beyonce’s Single Ladies is overplayed for the Bouquet toss, but don’t know what to go with instead, your DJ will share a few fun ideas with you. And, as always, be sure to mention any songs that you want to be excluded.
