It’s no secret that we love a farm wedding. A day out in the country celebrating a love story and uniting two families? That’s basically our perfect day.

So an October micro wedding on the lovely Tusculum Farm just outside Gaithersburg, MD, was a real treat. This place has it all — a traditional red barn, manicured gardens, stunning views of the countryside, and a charming stone farmhouse. It was the picture-perfect location for Steve and Renuka’s happy day — as captured by the expert photographer Mike Buscher of Buscher Photography.

With just 18 people in attendance and a strict “mask up” policy, this happy event was both fun and safe. The day was cool but sunny, so bride Renuka kept warm with a white fur wrap over her sparkling wedding dress. With a bouquet of pale pink roses in hand, she made her grand entrance to the Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony #9. If that doesn’t set a good precedent for the rest of a marriage, we don’t know what does!

After the ceremony and cocktail hour, the small party moved indoors for dinner. Gaithersburg wedding DJ Brian kept things fun with a Motown playlist, as requested by the bride and groom. Then it was time for the cake cutting, which was accompanied by Short Skirt Long Jacket by...Cake! This was a fun and cheeky choice, and we loved it.

Next up — the happy couple’s first dance. They chose Sharon Arasu’s cover of Top of the World, originally by The Carpenters. After that, DJ Brian opened up the dance floor. As this was such a small gathering, it was more of an intimate dinner party than a wild dance party. And that made it feel all the more special.

The bride and groom requested some of their favorites from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, like:

For the bouquet toss, Renuka chose Beyonce’s Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It). Do you think Queen Bey and her writing crew knew they were writing the bouquet toss anthem of the next decade? I’d like to think they did.

When the party was over, the small group swayed to Save the Last Dance For Me by Michael Bublé, before everyone wished Steve and Renuka a good night.

We were so pleased to help this lovely couple celebrate their wedding, along with 18 of their closest friends and family. This past year has been a great reminder that a small, intimate wedding can be just as beautiful and memorable as a huge party. We’re looking forward to more weddings of ALL sizes in 2021!
