When you’ve got a roster of DJs as large as ours (13 and counting!), there’s some behind-the-scenes work required to make sure each wedding or event is covered. But at Maryland’s DJ, it’s not enough to just put a body behind the booth.
We make sure each couple is matched with the perfect DJ to fit their wedding vibe. And the matchmaker? Wedding pro Taylor Picard.
Taylor gets to know each couple to assess their style and what they’re looking for in a DJ, so she can partner them with the hype man, old-school romantic, or indie-music savant that they need.
“My goal is to find you the right person that you'll vibe with on your wedding day,” Taylor says. “Music sets the tone for the night, and we want to match the energy that you have about how excited you are to get married!”
Taylor has been working in weddings since she was just 15, back in her home state of Vermont. After graduating from the University of Vermont, she and her pit mix Junior made the move to Maryland, where she started her own wedding officiating and planning business.
Taylor and Junior (who is officially the best boy, we checked)
Music is a family affair for Taylor. She has fond memories of going to music festivals in Vermont each year with her dad to see rock band Twiddle. Plus her younger brother is a trumpet player who studied composition in college, so “I like to think I gained some music education by osmosis,” she says. The two of them still jam out to the music of their youth when they get together, enjoying artists like Elton John, Guns & Roses, and Santana.
Taylor is a world traveler, having been to more countries than US states. And when she’s not working or rocking out to Sweet Child O’ Mine with her brother, she’s an avid thrifter.
But weddings hold her heart. “One thing I wish people knew about working weddings is how invested we get into you having a great time,” she says. “It's so much more than just a job for most of us. I always find myself emotionally hungover after a wedding…because of how much I care about each and every part of your day.”
“My favorite thing about working for Maryland’s DJ, aside from all the new people I get to meet, is the people we work with. Our staff is so diverse & everyone brings something different to the table. I’ve never worked for a company that has such vastly different personalities and skill sets, which is awesome. I get to learn new things every day!”
We love having Taylor on the team, and our couples love her too! Learn a bit more about her and find out what she loves so much about weddings.

What’s your favorite local wedding venue and why?
Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. Aside from how beautiful the views are, the staff there are incredible at their jobs which makes the entire day so wonderfully.

What’s your favorite thing about weddings?
Usually right after the formalities are finished. The dance floor opens up, and I get to watch the couple relax & celebrate together.
If you were getting married this weekend, what would your first dance song be?
Never Gonna Give You Up by Hazlett.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen at a wedding?
Maybe not crazy, but one of my couples were huge fans of The Office. During cocktail hour, they had a blow-up screen where they played their favorite episodes!
What’s the best “little kid moment” you’ve seen at a wedding?
One of my couples had their grandma be the flower girl, but they gave her a bubble gun!
What’s your favorite wedding movie and why?
My favorite wedding movie by far is Wedding Crashers. I work out on the eastern shore for weddings all the time & love to picture what it would have been like to be in the area when the film was being shot. Plus, let’s be real, it’s a bit of comedic genius.
When you're not working, what kind of music do you listen to?
Noah Kahan, Zack Bryan, Lizzo.... but I will play the Hamilton Soundtrack (Original Broadway Cast Recording) on repeat as well.
