We could have the absolute best DJs in the DMV on our roster (and let’s face it—we do), but it wouldn’t do us much good if no one knew about it.

Enter Marketing Wizard Sydney Davis—Syd for short—who helps us get the word out about our fantastic team and all the happy couples we’ve worked with. Without her, we’d be playing to an empty dance floor!

Syd is a midwestern transplant who has lived in California for the past 8 years (not counting the six months of 2019 that she lived in Ghana). She and her rescue German Shepherd, Tala, currently hail from the Bay Area. While she may live all the way across the country, that doesn’t stop Syd from crushing the marketing for Maryland’s DJ.

Syd has known and worked with MDJ founder Jordan Solender since 2016, so he knew he could count on her to do a great job with those social feeds. She’s super creative, which makes her a pro at content creation for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok. But there’s a whole other side to the social media and marketing sphere, which is the planning. As Syd explains, “Content creation and marketing strategy require a HUGE amount of prep, planning, and execution. But it's a beautiful marriage of organization and creativity, which are my bread and butter.”

And she loves the chance to put those skills to use for weddings. “I'm a big believer in creating an atmosphere that exudes the magic in a wedding,” she says. “Our DJs are the glue when it comes to creating that atmosphere. So I love being a part of that magic, even from behind a computer! I see tons of wedding pictures and videos that our DJs have been to and swoon every time.”

When she’s not creating or scheduling content, Syd likes to write poetry. You can read one of her poems in California’s Best Emerging Poets: An Anthology. Or you can find her going to town on a plate of BBQ ribs, especially if she’s on a visit to her hometown of Kansas City, MO.

Had enough? Not yet, right? Here’s more to learn about Syd!

Responses have been lightly edited for clarity.

What’s your favorite thing about weddings?

From a high level, the magic that comes from a wedding. From a (less-high?) level, a packed dance floor with a killer lineup from the DJ that keeps everyone dancing!

If you were getting married this weekend, what would your first dance song be?

I think it would be a mash-up of Let's Stay Together by Al Green paired with Can't Take My Eyes Off of You by Ms. Lauryn Hill.

Pro tip: Have a custom mash-up in mind? Maryland’s DJ can make it happen! Just tell them what you’re thinking and they’ll put it together. If there’s some reason why those two songs can’t play nice, your DJ will be sure to let you know and help you come up with a solution.

What's your favorite wedding movie and why?

Oh man, too many to count! My first favorite was Father of the Bride, but I also love Bridesmaids and My Best Friend's Wedding

BTW is anyone else just now realizing that Franck’s assistant was played by a very young BD Wong? No? Cool.

When you're not working, what kind of music do you listen to?

I love R&B (old and new) and blues/jazz (Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Chet Baker, The Ink Spots).

If you landed here at all, chances are it had something to do with Syd!
