Ebi Amir is used to being the youngest. He’s the youngest person in his family, and the “baby” of the Maryland’s DJ team at just 22 years old. But don’t let his age fool you — we’ve seen DJs twice his age with half the experience.

Ebi was born in Queens and soon developed a love for all things hip-hop. In high school, he decided he wanted to start DJing parties, which is where he got his start. The next step was Ebi’s first professional gig, the SpeakUp5k. This 5k run to raise awareness for teenage depression and anxiety has seen thousands of participants cross the finish line to Ebi’s tunes.

While studying business in Columbia, Maryland, Ebi decided to start DJing weddings and found he had loved it! He’s been working with us at Maryland's DJ for the past two years, delighting couples all through Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC.

Ebi knows what the crowd needs, even if they don’t. His unique skill is blending genres into one consistently-popping dance floor. From country to pop to rock to his favorite hip-hop, Ebi can weave his way through decade and style to keep everyone happy all night long.

When he’s not behind the booth, Ebi can tear up the dance floor himself. He’s got some serious breakdancing skills, including a mean headspin. He also has a knack for voices. Want your ceremony introductions done in the style of a boxing announcer or a dramatic movie trailer voiceover? Can do.

Ebi’s clients have been delighted with his performance as their wedding DJ. He’s been called “great,” “professional,” and “amazing.” He can also help couples pick out music when they’re stuck. He helped one couple choose songs to lead into the cake cutting, and they were thrilled with his choices.

We’re looking forward to a long and productive partnership between Ebi and Maryland’s DJ. There’s no limit to what this young buck can accomplish!

We chatted with Ebi about his favorite things about weddings, his musical style, and his unusual first dance song choice for his wedding — one day.

Responses have been lightly edited for clarity.

What’s your favorite local wedding venue and why?

Herrington on the Bay. I just love the tropical vibe and the view of the sunset over the water. I'd personally probably have a destination wedding.

What’s your favorite thing about weddings?

My favorite thing about weddings are the first dances, speeches, and mixing once the floor is open!

If you were getting married this weekend, what would your first dance song be?

My first dance song would probably be a custom mix/mash-up. Choreographed, romantic, intimate, surprising, comedic, and entertaining.

What do you think is the most overplayed wedding song?

Cha Cha Slide. I’ve personally never liked it, even as a kid.

What’s one thing you wish people knew about working as a DJ?

I wish people knew how nerve-racking it can be sometimes! We want to appear confident and enthusiastic in front of everyone. Plus we want to get everything perfect to make the couple's special day that much more memorable.

When you're not working, what kind of music do you listen to?

I'm usually listening to poetry, hip-hop, some instrumental trap, lo-fi, drum and bass.

If you’d like Ebi or any of our talented DJs for your wedding or event, just let us know. We’re taking bookings for 2021 and we’re looking forward to bringing the party to your big day.
